Liz Lurie
Liz Lurie was introduced to ceramics to in Mikhail Zakin’s classroom at Sarah Lawrence College. She graduated with a concentration in dance and ceramics and pursued her interest in pottery in rural Georgia where she was part of a wood-fire co-op. Liz’s work has been exhibited and published nationally. She has taught in multiple venues across the United States. She is co-founder of The Dallas Pottery Invitational which celebrated its 13-year anniversary in 2020.
After setting up studios in both Dallas, TX and Greene, NY, Liz settled down outside of Cazenovia, NY where she teaches community classes, maintains a showroom, and is a program coordinator for a local arts organization.
Teaching this year in the Clay Cohorts has been an extremely rewarding experience. I appreciate the way this model meets each student exactly where they are. You do not need to ‘catch up’, you are not ‘behind’ and you have nothing to ‘prove’. This program fosters individual artistic growth in a small, supportive community as well as encouraging students to create and network amongst themselves. Cross pollination between Cohorts is encouraged and helps build community which is so important when you are in your studio alone most of the time!
I’m excited to see your work change and grow as you begin to develop and understand your own questions, and inspirations. My goal as a teacher is to help you discover and make the work you want to make while holding you accountable to goals and pushing ideas. Whether the hurdles are technical, philosophical, or formal, whether you are trying to get work in a gallery, sell on-line, apply to craft shows, or write an artist statement I will be a sounding board and help you sort through it! Please join me in a cohort in which we celebrate, dissect, question, and push your work forward. Let’s work together and figure out how to make work that is stronger and more meaningful to you!
