Lisa Orr

Lisa Orr is a professional potter and has been a student of ceramics for more than 40 years. After completing her MFA in 1992 at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, she received a Fulbright and an MAAA/NEA grant to continue her studies. Her work is shown in numerous public and private collections including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, and the permanent collection of WOCEF in Korea. A full-time studio potter, she also teaches, lectures, and shows nationally and internationally.

What an honor it is to be included in Clay Cohorts as an instructor! I had a grand year with each ceramist in my two groups of five. Individually and together as groups, we faced many considerations regarding design, process, technique, materials, idea sources, readings, career advancement, audience, and most importantly, poetics and meaning of form. Students surprised themselves and me, their mentor and accountability partner, with their exciting developments each meeting! It worked well to keep notes and images on one long shared document for reference and continuity. Additionally, the guest lectures are fantastic and SO useful. My expectation is that cohort members will permanently embed this multi-layered program into their studio art lifestyle so they will have the tools to continue asking great questions toward making their most skillful and authentic work.
